Dean the tutor

mathstutor - Dean (aka Sudaama)

  • Online Tuition

Hi, welcome to mathsDoc. I'm Dean aka Sudaama, a qualified and experienced teacher specialising in GCSE and A-level Maths, but also teaching basic vedic (ancient Indian maths) techniques (please see the surrounding videos). Primarily, most of the tuition I deliver is online, but a limited amount of in-person tuition is available in the Bristol area.

All the major exam boards are catered for (AQA, OCR, Edexcel, OCR MEI)

  • Tutoring Style/Philosophy

I tutor the student according to their individual needs and fully embrace the idea that mathematics is not a spectator sport, where one can sit back. Learning mathematics is an active, challenging pursuit, that requires the full, active participation of the student. Making mistakes is a major part of learning mathematics and learning from those mistakes is an integral part of developing mathematical awareness.

In our maths sessions, I encourage students to engage fully in the process of exploration, and develop their reasoning power, analytical and critical thinking skills. In time, this results in the acquisition of good logical/reasoning abilities and the student also develops more and more confidence in their own ability to deliberate on any particular subject matter.

We can also draw upon a wide range of mathematics resources to encourage multi-dimensional thinking and creative intelligence.

Services

One-to-One Tutoring in Pre-GCSE, GCSE or A-level Maths

We provide tailored, one-to-one tutoring in maths and help prepare students to sit standard maths exams, namely GCSE and A-levels. All of the maths sessions are entirely bespoke, fully tailored to the student's specific needs. The student can decide which topic or topics they wish to tackle/concentrate upon: number, algebra, ratio, proportion, geometry, probability, statistics or some other topic.

Group Tuition in Pre-GCSE, GCSE or A-level Maths

These group tuition sessions are generally for students who are studying the same syllabus/topics and who are all roughly at a similar mathematical level. We run regular group sessions throughout the year, generally following a standard, mainstream curriculum and specific program of study (POS). The most common study groups are for KS3, GCSE and A-level maths, generally taking place twice a week. This is a monthly subscription service, but students can opt-out at any time.

Student Portal

Online Tuition

Online tuition takes place in a virtual classroom using an interactive virtual whiteboard which is accessed via the moodle portal.

You can access the virtual classroom, where all of the online maths lessons take place via the moodle hyperlink in the menu bar above. To join the lesson, you need to login to the moodle mathsdoc portal with your moodlemathsdoc student ID and password which will be allocated to you after you have been authorized.

You can use a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet with a large screen.

To get the most of online tuition, we also require students to have some way of writing on the online whiteboard. Most students use graphics tablet like the Wacom One. Alternatively, some student use a write-on tablet screen, for example the iPad Pro / Microsoft Surface, which is just as effective.

Once you gain entry into the portal, you can then find your maths course and click on the link to the Virtual Classroom.

Please note, that you will have to wait for the tutor to start the lesson before you enter the Virtual Classroom.

Equipment

Here is a list of the equipment that you need to participate in an online tutoring/tuition session:

  • A laptop/tablet/computer or some other device with broadband internet access.
  • Speakers and a microphone or headset.
  • Webcam (a phone camera can also be used).
  • Pen input device.

For a laptop/desktop PC, we recommend the Wacom One. However, if you have a tablet, such as an iPad Pro or Microsoft Surface you could simply use a stylus pen.
